ADVANCING WETLAND TECHNOLOGY IN OMAN

RWTP

Rima Water Treatment Plant is a joint venture of local and global companies with a deep knowledge of the oil & gas sector. We provide groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind technologies for wastewater management, working in harmony with Oman’s natural habitats and wildlife. RWTP uses environmentally sound technologies to treat oily produced water, creating a green oasis in the middle of the desert, via an international contracting strategy called design-build-own-operate-maintain (DBOOM). This innovative solution not only treats wastewater effectively, but also creates a new habitat for local wildlife. Demonstrating our commitment to fighting climate change, the project has the capacity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an impressive 48,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

MAIN STAKEHOLDERS

THE CLIENT

Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) is the leading exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman. We deliver the majority of the country’s crude oil production and natural gas supply, but above all we focus on delivering excellence, growth and sustainable value creation within and well beyond our industry. We are the forefront of technological innovation, and are among the world leaders in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) techniques, pioneering the use of polymer, steam and miscible gas injection on a full-field scale.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

CLIENT

Our client is PDO (Petroleum Development Oman), a prominent exploration and oil production company in the Sultanate of Oman. The primary objective of the contract is to safely and sustainably manage the disposal of excess produced water while maintaining low operating costs.

Using Design-Build-Own-Operate-Maintain (DBOOM) contract scheme allows PDO to rely fully on the expertise and accountability of its contractor RWTP to treat the excess produced water using wetland technology. The treatment facility will have a capacity of 40,000 m3/d, with an allowance of +/- 15% variance. This cutting-edge treatment process encompasses both physical and biological methods for the removal of oil contaminants and is designed to operate efficiently for a duration of 20 years.
